THE PREDICTION

23-year-old Yibing Wu set a career-high ATP world ranking, and Chinese male record in the process, of 58th last month after storming a strong field to win his maiden ATP title at the Dallas Open. The youngster has not played since to take a fairly old five-match winning streak into his Masters debut at Indian Wells but he is likely to draw a big crowd on Wednesday and probably the lion’s share of the support in a first meeting with Jaume Munar. World number 58 Munar enjoyed his first deep run in some time at the Chile Open last week before losing in three sets to eventual champion Nicolas Jarry and the Spaniard is one of the better ‘clay specialists’ on a hardcourt. An upset victory over Lorenzo Musetti in Santiago should not be underestimated here and nor should the new-found target on Yibing Wu’s back but the Chinese beat Taylor Fritz and John Isner on US soil last month and he can be backed to maintain that streak with an outright win here.
