THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Veronika Kudermetova enjoyed an impressive run to the semi-finals of the Qatar Open last week before a hammering by eventual champion Iga Swiatek. Wins over Barbora Krejcikova and Coco Gauff suggest the Russian is in excellent form despite winning just one game from Swiatek, though, and she looks the reasonable favourite here. World number 33 Anhelina Kalinina could prove a real threat on the incoming clay swing if she finds the level that saw her burst onto the scene on her favoured surface this time last year but she has struggled to take opportunities so far this season despite an excellent victory over Petra Kvitova. Kudermetova beat Kalinina in three sets in their only previous meeting at the Linz Open back in 2021 and she is a much better player now. Back Kudermetova to win outright or consider risking straight sets.
