THE PREDICTION

World number 51 Sloane Stephens is yet to drop a set this week in Austin with two strong performances over Heather Watson and Taylor Townsend. The former world number three is through to her second-successive quarter-final on tour but she fell poorly 6-0, 6-0 to Camila Giorgi as the defending champion last week at the Merida Open. Stephens will face world number 88 Varvara Gracheva for the second week running too after the Russian overcame Anna Blinkova in three sets on Wednesday to back-up an excellent upset victory over top seed Magda Linette in the first round. The pair shared a very tight three-set battle in the round of 16 in Merida, where Stephens came back from a set down to win, and backing Stephens to win at least a set here looks the suitably cautious pick as a result. You could risk the total of three sets option but Stephens should be coming through a little easier in this rematch on home soil.
