The Austrian stands a fair chance at an upset against an out-of-sorts Tommy Paul but the American should be better in this opener after a sorry exit to Daniil Medvedev at this stage of the China Open last week. World number 12 Paul was only recently enjoying victory over Carlos Alcaraz at the Canada Masters in August, for a second successive season, but a round of 16 defeat to Ben Shelton at the US Open looked to affect his poor performance at the Davis Cup for the US.
