THE PREDICTION
World number 30 Tomas Martin Etcheverry reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros last summer to prove his credentials on clay but he missed several opportunities to claim a first title on the surface across the South American swing in February. The 24-year-old lost comfortably to Andy Murray at the Miami Open last time out but he beat the Brit and Gael Monfils en-route to the third round at the Australian Open in January to suggest last year’s form was no one-hit wonder. One of Etcheverry’s few clay wins in February came against world number 83 Daniel Elahi Galan in Buenos Aires and he has won each of their last two tour-level encounters to lead 2-1 in their head-to-head. 27-year-old Galan overcame a tough early assault by Benoit Paire on Tuesday but this will be a considerably tougher, and more relentless, challenge. Back Tomas Martin Etcheverry to win.
TIP: TOMAS MARTIN ETCHEVERRY TO WIN
