THE PREDICTION

24-year-old Thiago Seyboth Wild will break inside the top 60 on tour for the first time after a comfortable opener over Gregoire Barrere on Thursday. The Brazilian was a hotly-touted junior who suffered more than most when the covid-19 pandemic paused the 2020 season but he has come on leaps and bounds over the past 12 months or so, famously stunning Daniil Medvedev at Roland-Garros last summer and now finding more consistent top results over the last few Masters events.

World number 27 Tomas Martin Etcheverry reached the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros last summer to prove his credentials on his favoured clay but the Argentine has struggled to make as much of an impact on the surface this year so far. A run to the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open last month was ended by eventual champion Casper Ruud but Etcheverry’s limp defeat to Jaume Munar at the Provence Challenger last week does not bode well against the improving Seyboth Wild. The cautious approach is backing the Argentine to earn at least a set but the shrewd move could be taking the same in favour of the in-form Brazilian, who carries some real momentum behind him.
