THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Terence Atmane will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 130th after claiming his first tour-level victory on Thursday, beating Jordan Thompson in three sets. The Frenchman has been rapidly rising up the rankings in recent weeks off the back of a strong season on the Challenger circuit and two titles won off the tour in China last month gave him the spring board to qualify well here in Shanghai. 27-year-old Nicolas Jarry should prove too steep of a challenge at this moment in time, though, as the Chilean brought his own career-high of 22nd into the tournament following a run to the quarter-finals at the Beijing Open. The Chilean stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round in Beijing en-route to a tight exit to Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals and he should hit the ground running with only one early exit on tour since the start of the hardcourt swing. Atmane has enough momentum to deserve caution. Back Jarry to win outright.
