Defending champion Taylor Fritz made short work of beating Sebastian Baez on Monday, conceding just three games to the Argentine to back-up a strong comeback against Ben Shelton in the second round. The 25-year-old came into Indian Wells at a career-high ATP world ranking of fifth but he has put some excellent work into maintaining a top 10 place even if he fails to defend his title here with victories in Eastbourne, Tokyo and most recently Delray Beach seeing him one of the more consistent performers on tour since the start of last season. World number 84 Marton Fucsovics has played well this week, encouragingly so after such a woeful 2022, and he stunned Mexican open champion Alex de Minaur on Saturday to prove that he should be taken seriously here. A first meeting is always tricky to call with clarity but Fritz clearly loves the conditions here and he will be backed to the hilt as a California native and the US number one. Take Fritz to win outright inside an accumulator or risk the straight sets on its own.
