25-year-old Taylor Fritz came into the Mexican Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of fifth and he has so far delivered with two impressive victories over big-servers John Isner and Denis Shapovalov. The US number one will face number two here in the seventh meeting between Fritz and world number 15 Frances Tiafoe, who is yet to drop a set this week in Acapulco after two solid wins over Yoshihito Nishioka and Feliciano Lopez. Fritz takes a six-match winning streak into this exciting clash after winning the Delray Beach Open last week but he takes an even more convincing five-match streak over Tiafoe himself after most recently beating his compatriot to win the Tokyo Open last October. Fritz’ 5-1 lead in their head-to-head is thanks largely to three meetings last year at various moments of his peak but Tiafoe has certainly improved in the last six months and this should come close. Back Fritz to win outright given his streaks but Tiafoe will feed off of the electric atmosphere in Acapulco and it would not be a surprise to see the opposite.
