THE PREDICTION

World number 13 Taylor Fritz looks in great shape at the Cincinnati Open after back-to-back comprehensive wins over Sebastian Baez and, impressively, Nick Kyrgios. The 24-year-old won his first Masters title at Indian Wells back in March in what has been by far his bets season on tour but he suffered a foot injury in a five-set epic with Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last month that has taken some getting over these past few weeks. World number eight Andrey Rublev came back from a set down to beat Fabio Fognini on Wednesday, taking a 6-5 lead in their fiery head-to-head. The Russian lost to Fritz in the semi-finals of Indian Wells this season to trail 3-2 to the American in their head-to-head and there is a sense that he has lost some of his trademark ruthlessness over the last 12 months of so. Rublev reached the final here last season before defeat to Alexander Zverev but with the German absent he will see himself the defending champion by default. Fritz, though, has won their last two meetings in straight sets and he looks the better in form at this moment in time. Take Fritz to win outright.
