World number 80 Tatjana Maria backed-up a great victory over Eugenie Bouchard in the first round of the Korea Open with a comprehensive straight-sets result over Kimberley Birrell, conceding just three games. The 35-year-old is enjoying a wonderful renaissance season after leaving the tour for maternity, winning the second WTA title of her career at the Bogota Open back in April as well as, remarkably, reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon. 28-year-old Lin Zhu will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 63rd after also winning both of her matches in straight sets so far and this looks a really tight call in a first meeting between the two.
