World number 10 Alex de Minaur enjoyed a brilliant defence of his Mexican Open title last weekend, beating Casper Ruud in straight sets in the final after finally beating Stefanos Tsitsipas at the 11th attempt in the quarters. The 25-year-old finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner at the Rotterdam Open last month to maintain his steady progress up into a fully-fledged top 10 player, with his first Masters final reached in Toronto last summer also quashed by the imperious Italian. World number 76 Taro Daniel comfortably beat Daniel Elahi Galan in straight sets to get a strong foothold in at Indian Wells but this looks too tough a task against the in-form Aussie. 31-year-old Daniel stunned top seed Ben Shelton to reach the Auckland Classic final in January but he was de Minaur’s first victim in Acapulco last week, taking just three games, to trail the 10th seed 0-3 coming into this quick rematch. Back De Minaur to win in straight sets once again.
