World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas looked in great shape on Wednesday as he blasted past Aussie wildcard Rinky Hijikata, conceding just five games after a tighter straight-sets win over Quentin Halys in the first round. The 24-year-old won more matches on the ATP tour than any other player last season but took just two titles from a possible seven finals with confidence issues plaguing him ever since a loss from two sets up to Novak Djokovic in his maiden Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros in 2021. Tsitsipas has reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open in each of the last two seasons and in three of his last four, losing the last two to Daniil Medvedev.
THE PREDICTION
This is will be Stefanos Tsitsipas’ first big test at the Australian Open against world number 63 Tallon Griekspoor, who is yet to lose in 2023 after claiming his maiden ATP title at the Pune Open two weeks ago. The 26-year-old has always shown the potential to be a top 40 player but a straight-sets victory over his compatriot Botic van de Zandschulp on Wednesday suggests he can break his career-high of 44th sooner rather than later. A first meeting between the two should create some entertaining rallies but Tsitsipas remains the fair favourite to come through in three or four sets. Back the Greek to win outright.
