THE PREDICTION

This should be a fascinating edition of what is proving to be an excellent new rivalry on tour between world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas and number 14 Jannik Sinner. The pair faced off in the round of 16 at the Australian Open last month in a five-setter that came close to a thriller, although it was more of a seesaw with both players finding their best at different stages before Tsitsipas rallied to take a 5-1 lead in their head-to-head. However, this is the Greek’s first match back on tour since another heart-breaking defeat to Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam final and it remains to be seen how he will react, with his previous defeat at Roland-Garros in 2021 severely affecting his confidence for much of the rest of the season. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Sinner claimed his seventh ATP title last week with a convincing run at the Montpellier Open and he coped well with the quick turnaround to beat Benjamin Bonzi in three sets on Wednesday here in Rotterdam. Indoor conditions suit the Italian’s game over Tsitsipas’ but both players will feel at home on court and the Greek has won four of their last five encounters.

The sensible option is backing Tsitsipas to earn at least a set, as he has done so in each of their six previous meetings, to leave the victor up to chance but you could consider adding at least a tiebreak for value.
