THE PREDICTION

World number five Caroline Garcia beat Leylah Fernandez in three sets on Monday in a match that did not disappoint. The 29-year-old burst into form last summer to eventually end the year with four WTA titles; one on each surface including the Cincinnati Masters and culminating in a first WTA Finals trophy. World number 83 Sorana Cirstea is much better than her current deflated ranking suggests and she proved that on Monday by dismissing in-form Bernarda Pera with just four games conceded. Cirstea is yet to drop a set this week but given Garcia’s results so far this could end up another three set epic between two players whose clay instincts suit the slower conditions. Both of their previous meetings needed a decider at the Canada Masters in 2017 and Madrid Masters in 2019 but Garcia edged through both encounters. Back the Frenchwoman to win outright here.
