THE PREDICTION

This could be a proper thriller between two of the more unpredictable players on the WTA tour. Both world number 42 Shelby Rogers and number 47 Sloane Stephens are capable of beating anybody on their respective best days but those days are few and far between on the WTA tour. Former world number three Stephens turned 30 on Monday and there will likely be a celebration planned for the Florida native on court that could see her given the majority of the support in this first meeting with Rogers. However, former world number 30 Rogers, also 30 years old, has the better recent results behind her with victories over the likes of Leylah Fernandez and Anett Kontaveit as well as a well-contested three-set defeat to Maria Sakkari last time out at Indian Wells. This match is well worth leaving out of an accumulator but otherwise back Rogers to earn at least a set here as the likelier not to fall in two.
