THE PREDICTION

World number 88 Sebastian Baez was called up to replace Jenson Brooksby at the Next Gen ATP Finals last November and he surprised a lot of people with wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Hugo Gaston to reach the semi-finals. The 21-year-old has not started this season off in quite the same fashion but he looks set to be a handful in the future, at least on the clay circuit where he won six Challenger titles last season. World number 44 Albert Ramos-Vinolas is likely to meet him again this season on that swing as a fellow clay specialist. The 33-year-old beat Cam Norrie at the Estoril Open last year for a third career ATP title on the surface but he brings a four-match losing streak into this first meeting with Baez that makes this an intriguing one indeed. Ramos-Vinolas remains the slightest favourite on experience more than anything but after Baez’s performance at the Next Gen ATP Finals take him to win at least two sets here in what could go to five.
