THE PREDICTION

World number 183 Robin Montgomery has justified her wildcard selection and then some on her Madrid Open debut, stunning Elina Avanesyan in comfortable straight sets on Wednesday before a brilliant comeback over Katie Boulter on Friday. The 19-year-old has enjoyed steady progress on the ITF circuit in recent months to look ready for more opportunities on tour but this should be far too steep of a challenge against defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, who is a two-time Madrid champion after lifting the title for the first time three years ago. 25-year-old Sabalenka has struggled to find her best tennis since the emotional release of successfully defending her Australian Open title in January made her a two-time Grand Slam champion but it should not take long for her to return. A three-set victory over in-form Magda Linette on Friday was a solid enough start to her Madrid campaign but she should be better for an early scare to beat Montgomery in straight sets.

TIP: ARYNA SABALENKA TO WIN 2-0
