THE PREDICTION

Former world number seven David Goffin has endured an odd couple of years on tour but this looks to be one of his better weeks. The 31-year-old beat last year’s European Open runner-up Diego Schwartzman in straight sets on Thursday for an altogether more assured performance than his opener against wildcard Gilles Bailly and he should be considered the slight favourite in this fifth meeting with fellow veteran Richard Gasquet, whom he leads 3-1 in their head to-head record. 36-year-old Gasquet, also a former world number seven, came back from a set down to beat old foe Stan Wawrinka in the first round and he backed that up with a solid win over young Dominic Stricker on Wednesday. Home advantage in Antwerp should see Goffin battle through here but the clear sensible option is taking the Belgian to win at least a set, as he has done in all four of their meetings so far.
