THE PREDICTION

World number four Casper Ruud has lost three of his last five matches since finishing runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open in September, where he briefly became world number two for the first time. The Norwegian also finished runner-up at Roland-Garros this summer, to who else but Rafael Nadal, and he must try and find some of that joy back in Paris if he is to gather enough momentum to challenge at the ATP Finals next week. Former world number seven Richard Gasquet has found some excellent form this season, proving he still has plenty more to give at 36 years old. The Frenchman will be well-backed by a partisan crowd on Tuesday and he beat Ruud, albeit four years ago, in their only previous encounter. Gasquet took out a tough foe in Alex Molcan on Monday and he reached the semi-finals of the European Open two weeks ago before losing in tight tiebreaks to eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime. It would not be a huge shock to see the Frenchman win here, so backing him to earn at least a set looks the suitable move.
