Former world number 39 Radu Albot won his only ATP title here at Delray Beach back in 2019 and he has often found an extra gear on his returns to Florida, with an impressive comeback over up-and-coming Juncheng Shang on Tuesday the latest. 34-year-old Albot qualified without dropping a set this weekend to look up for the challenge this week and he will be well aware that he faces second seed Frances Tiafoe in an opportune moment, with the world number 15 currently enduring a really poor patch of form. 26-year-old Tiafoe also won his first ATP title here, a year earlier in 2018, and he added two more to that total last season on clay in Houston and on grass in Stuttgart to complete his collection of surfaces. However, the American has struggled with confidence on court practically ever since his quarter-final exit at the US Open last summer, with a consummate defeat to Marcos Giron in Dallas last week well below his ability. Tiafoe should be blasting through this clash in straight sets but the sensible call is an outright one, with the shrewd move perhaps a set in favour of Albot.
