20-year-old Qinwen Zheng looked a great young prospect this time last season on her Grand Slam debut but she surpassed ‘rising star’ status with some brilliant performances, perhaps most notably at Roland-Garros when she beat former champion Simona Halep before taking a set from eventual champion Iga Swiatek in a round of 16 exit. The world number 30 finished runner-up to Liudmila Samsonova at the Japan Open late last season and she started 2023 off in similar form with a three-set victory over former world number two Anett Kontaveit at Adelaide 1. There is an injury doubt for the Chinese after she was forced to retire from the second set of a tight clash with Petra Kvitova on Wednesday but if she is cleared to play this should be a fairly straightforward win over world number 86 Dalma Galfi, whose last victory came at the Winners Open in October. Back Qinwen Zheng to win this first meeting in straight sets.
