21-year-old Peyton Stearns overcame Katie Boulter in three tiebreaks on Tuesday to make full use of her wildcard at the Austin Open. The American won her last two ITF tournaments on US soil to set a career-high WTA world ranking of 137th this week and she should break that once again no matter the outcome here, although this first meeting with world number 151 Mirjam Bjorkland looks an excellent opportunity. 24-year-old Bjorkland will have plenty to say about that, though, after claiming one of the wins of her career over recent Lyon champion Alycia Parks in three sets on Monday. The Swede rarely qualifies for the main draws on tour but this battle of the wildcards will be an interesting one after claiming her second tour-level win of the season. Stearns will have the advantage of a partisan home crowd and her winning streak, albeit at ITF level, suggests taking her to earn at least a set is the sensible way to lean.
