World number 58 Xiyu Wang beat 15-year-old Brenda Fruhvirtova in straight sets on Tuesday for a solid start to her Miami Open campaign but she lost at this stage at Indian Wells a fortnight go from a set up against Anastasia Potapova. The 21-year-old fares a decent chance at an upset here against world number 41 Petra Martic, who has lost three matches on the spin now since finishing runner-up to Potapova in the Linz Open final last month. Wang beat Martic in their only previous encounter three years ago at the Hua Hin Championships and she has improved markedly since. Martic remains the favourite on overall form this season but take the Chinese up-and-comer to earn at least a set here to leave the victor up to chance.
