THE PREDICTION
World number three Jessica Pegula came back from a set down to win for the second time this campaign, beating an impressive Anastasia Potapova on Sunday to back-up a more solid result over Camila Giorgi. The 28-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers at this level across the past two seasons and after many near-misses, mostly down to drawing Iga Swiatek, she finally won a Masters title in Guadalajara last November. This is a really tricky, interesting round of 16 clash with former world number two Petra Kvitova, though, after the Czech beat her in their first match of the season at the United Cup. Pegula went on to dominate in both singles and doubles to help the USA to that inaugural title but she has looked a little off her best since, only slightly but enough to be cautious here. Kvitova came back from a set down to beat Jelena Ostapenko on Sunday, employing some dark arts in the third set to receive a frosty handshake at the net.
The Czech leads Pegula 3-1 in their head-to-head record and so backing her to earn at least a set here looks the most sensible way to lean even if Pegula once again turns it around in three.
