World number 48 Pedro Martinez is deceptively good on his favoured clay but he will be rueing a missed opportunity at Estoril last month when he stunned top seed Casper Ruud in the semi-finals but ran out of steam against Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
The 27-year-old won his maiden ATP title on home clay at the Chile Open two years ago and he has reached two Challenger finals in recent weeks, winning the first in Girona two months ago to suggest he can be a factor in the early stages here in Paris.
World number 109 Thiago Agustin Tirante stunned Boric van de Zandschulp in four sets this time last season before falling in straight sets to Zhizhen Zhang. The 23-year-old won a Challenger event in Mexico City early last month to prove his credentials on this surface but he has been unfortunate not to draw someone less comfortable in these conditions. Sets should go both ways over five but back the Spaniard to win.
