World number 79 Quentin Halys takes a five-match losing streak into his Miami Open debut but the Frenchman has been competitive in his recent defeats and a run to the semi-finals of the Phoenix Challenger last week included some eye-catching results. 26-year-old Halys is probably the just-about favourite in this first meeting with world number 121 Pedro Martinez but Martinez is certainly a better player than his current deflated ranking suggests. The 25-year-old beat Marc-Andrea Huesler in three sets at this stage of Indian Wells two weeks ago and he was competitive in defeat to Felix Auger-Aliassime. With three sets likely here back Halys to earn at least one of them and leave the victor up to chance.
