World number 74 Oscar Otte began to transform his career at Roland-Garros in 2021 with a five-set defeat to Alexander Zverev in the first round, backing that up with another five-set epic against Andy Murray at Wimbledon later that summer before the run of his life in a round of 16 exit to Mateo Berrettini at the US Open. A third round exit at Wimbledon last season was the best of a less-impressive year, although the 29-year-old enjoyed a first full season on the ATP tour, but there were some excellent runs on home soil in Munich, Halle and Stuttgart. This looks a kind opening fixture against 17-year-old Juncheng Shang, who qualified well this week with victories including a three-setter over former top 10 Fernando Verdasco. The teenager has nothing to lose on his Grand Slam debut, and sets seem likely to go both ways here, but Otte should be too powerful. Back the German to win outright.
