THE LOWDOWN

NOVAK DJOKOVIC

Six-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic survived a mini-scare against the impressive Tim van Rijthoven in the fourth round but ultimately made his class tell and the Serb is now on a streak of 25 straight wins on grass.

JANNIK SINNER

Jannik Sinner reached his first Wimbledon quarter-final – and his third in Grand Slams overall – when he won a superb match against fellow youngster Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth round and the manner in which the Italian closed out that match will give him plenty of confidence as he faces the defending champion.

THE PREDICTION

Sinner’s clash with Alcaraz in the last round was billed as a battle of the future stars but both players proved that they are very much a force to be reckoned with in the present as they served up a superb contest, and Djokovic will need to be on his A-game here in order to continue his quest for a 21st Grand Slam title. The Serb is without question the greatest ever returner of serve but Sinner likewise excels in that department and the result of this match may very much depend on who reads each other’s serve better. There is a strong case to be made for the young Italian here but Djokovic’s incredible record at Wimbledon and his mental focus in the big moments should carry him through, although it may take four or even five sets before he completes the job.
