However, the Italian impressed in a three-set defeat to Karolina Muchova in the third round of Indian Wells last time out and she stunned Maria Sakkari on a hardcourt at the United Cup back in January to prove she can be a threat here. World number 137 Nao Hibino qualified well this week before a straight-sets victory over Danka Kovinic saw her reach a rare second round at a Masters-level tournament. The 28-year-old stands a fair chance at the upset here against Trevisan but it should be noted that the Italian has won both of their previous meetings on hardcourts, with both coming last season at the Australian Open and Guadalajara Masters. Three sets seem likelier than two, though, so the suitably cautious pick is Trevisan to win outright.
