World number 47 Lauren Davis won the second WTA title of her career at the Hobart International back in January but only two wins since make it hard to back her fully in this first meeting with Maryna Zanevska. World number 78 Zanevska is capable of the occasional upset and she has the more impressive results this season with victories over Elise Mertens, Shuai Zhang and Anastasia Potapova suggesting she could edge this. Neither player brings much recent form into the equation but while home advantage will heavily favour Davis she may struggle to gather a full crowd amidst the hustle and bustle of round one at Indian Wells.
