29-year-old Martina Trevisan is one of the more specialist players on tour who often struggles away from her favoured clay but she set a new career-high WTA world ranking this week after a remarkable victory over Maria Sakkari helped take Italy to the final of the United Cup. Trevisan won two and lost three of her five United Cup matches but she got the job done when it counted before coming unstuck against world number three Jessica Pegula and it remains to be seen how she fares here. The Italian has never made it past the second round at any Grand Slam but Roland-Garros where she, incredibly, has made the quarter-finals twice in three appearances including last season’s semi-final exit to Coco Gauff. World number 100 Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova was a top 30 player in 2015 but she has never made it past the third round at a Grand Slam. The Slovak blasted through qualifying without dropping a set, though, and Trevisan’s record on hardcourts remains totally undependable. Leave this match out of an accumulator but consider taking Scmiedlova to earn at least a set with some momentum behind her.
