The Russian came back from a set down to beat Taylor Townsend on Thursday for an eye-catching result against a tough opponent and this should be tougher still against in-form Magda Linette. World number 45 Linette came back from a set down to stun 16th seed Anett Kontaveit on Thursday and she has beaten the likes of Karolina Pliskova ad Madison Keys on international duty in recent months and she famously upset Ons Jabeur in the first round of Roland-Garros last summer. The Pole is more confident and grittier than we have seen for some time and in a 1-1 head-to-head record with Alexandrova she won their hardcourt encounter in the semi-finals of the Korea Open back in 2019. Alexandrova beat Linette in comprehensive straight sets on clay at Charleston last season but backing Linette to earn at least a set looks the shrewd way to avoid picking a winner here.
