THE PREDICTION

World number 24 Madison Keys has now knocked out the two most recent Grand Slam champions in Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina and she is yet to drop a set this week in Cincinnati. The 2019 champion came in cold after suffering an injury at the Eastbourne International in June but she looks to be in the same kind of form that saw her reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open at the start of the season before defeat to eventual champion Ash Barty. Former world number two Petra Kvitova also looks the business this week after ousting in-form Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets, backing up a huge three-set victory over Ons Jabeur. The 32-year-old won the aforementioned Eastbourne International for a 29th career WTA title in a hugely welcome return to form after spending much of the last two seasons struggling to maintain her world-beating brand of tennis consistent enough to make deep runs.

Keys and Kvitova share a finely-poised head-to-head record at 4-4 after the Czech beat Keys n straight sets in the first round here last season. Kvitova is 4-3 up on hardcourts and 2-0 up on US soil, suggesting backing her to win at least a set is the sensible way to lean here even if Keys ends up coming through the victor.
