27-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova came into the Korea Open on a career-high WTA world ranking of 24th as she continues to enjoy the most consistent season of her career. The Russian struggled initially to beat Asia Muhammad in the first round but she backed it up well with a comprehensive victory over Na-lae Han to win back-to-back matches for the first time since winning ‘s-Hertogenbosch on grass back in June. This should be another fairly routine fixture for the Russian against Lulu Sun, also known as Lulu Radovcic, who has so far enjoyed the best run of her young career. The Swiss beat Anna Blinkova in straight sets on Thursday to reach a first tour quarter-final and back-up a strong week through qualifying but this looks a step too far at this moment in time.
