THE PREDICTION

This looks a tough call between experienced world number 38 Irina-Camelia Begu and 18-year-old Linda Noskova. The teenage Czech is a clear and present rising star on the WTA tour who finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka at Adelaide 1 back in January, reaching her maiden tour final at a 500 event with incredible victories over Daria Kasatkina, Victoria Azarenka and Ons Jabeur. However, 32-year-old Begu reached the semi-finals in Adelaide before defeat to Sabalenka and she stunned two top players of her own in Jelena Ostapenko and Veronika Kudermetova to do so. Begu claimed the fifth WTA title of her career last season at the Palermo Ladies Open and she would be considered the firm favourite on clay but Noskova has had the better year so far. Back Noskova to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners.
