This match looks a likely three-setter between two players well-versed with a scrap. World number 67 Rebecca Marino has been steadily making her way back up the WTA world rankings over the last few seasons, chasing down a career-high of 38th set over a decade ago in 2011 and a battling three-set defeat to Caroline Garcia at the Guadalajara Masters late last year showed a lot of people what she can be capable of on her day. World number 87 Lin Zhu beat both Madison Brengle and Venus Williams from a set down this week in Auckland before coming up against much better opposition in eventual champion Coco Gauff and she looks to have the better recent form ahead of this first tour-level meeting with Marino. The Canadian made the third round at the US Open last time out at a major, though, whilst Zhu lost both of her first round matches at majors in 2022. Back Marino to earn at least a set here and leave the victor up to chance or risk the three-set option.
