THE PREDICTION
World number 53 Leylah Fernandez took Caroline Garcia to three sets before defeat in the second round of Indian Wells two weeks ago but the 20-year-old looks to be getting better on tour. The Canadian has been unfortunate to meet the likes of Garcia and Iga Swiatek early in recent tournaments but this is no gimme against world number 81 Lesia Tsurenko as the Ukrainian continues to make a mockery of her current ranking. The former world number 23 has been enjoying something of a renaissance on tour since last summer and a comeback victory over in-form Donna Vekic two weeks ago at Indian Wells suggests she has a working level at least inside the top 40. At her very best Fernandez could be backed to come through in straight sets here but a decider will probably be required here. You could risk the three set option or more cautiously back Fernandez to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners.
