THE PREDICTION

World number 343 Kathinka von Deichmann made a rare foray into the round of 16 at a tour level event with a comeback victory over Irina Khromacheva, who was forced to retire injured in the third set. The 29-year-old from Liechtenstein is playing in her first WTA tour event this season but she has nothing to lose in this wide open first encounter with world number 170 Polina Kudermetova, who may struggle as the favourite after a stunning upset over Alycia Parks on Monday. Neither player brings much recent form into this first encounter but Kudermetova certainly has the higher ceiling. This match is best left well alone but backing Kudermetova to win at least a set seems reasonable after claiming the biggest win of her young career.
