THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Roman Safiullin will break the top 40 on tour for the first time after an excellent straight-sets upset over an out-of-sorts Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday. The 26-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon back in January to bring his ranking up to scratch and playing fewer qualifying rounds seems to have heavily contributed to his progression since, recently finishing runner-up to Alexander Zverev in his maiden ATP tour final at the Chengdu Open. Fellow Russian Karen Khachanov beat Safiullin in straight sets in Vienna last week but this second encounter should be a much tighter battle. The world number 15 won his most prestigious of five ATP titles here in 2018, with his long-awaited fifth coming at the Zhuhai Championships in September. 27-year-old Khachanov has played well through straight-setters this week and his previous experience in Paris-Bercy no longer looks as heavy a weight as it has in previous editions. Back Khachanov to earn at least a set from a likely three-setter to leave the victor up to chance.

BETTING TIP: Karen Khachanov to win a set.
