THE PREDICTION
Former world number 19 Karolina Muchova enjoyed a hugely encouraging campaign at Indian Wells last time out to fats-track her resurgence back up the WTA rankings. The 26-year-old halved her ranking to 55th after reaching the quarter-finals in the desert and she came closer than anybody to beating eventual champion Elena Rybakina as she took the red-hot Kazakh to three sets after thrilling wins over Victoria Azarenka and Marketa Vondrousova. Muchova still had to qualify this week on her old ranking but she blasted through two matches to warm up nicely ahead of this quality first round clash with Jil Teichmann, who similarly would have been seeded in Miami had the rankings been updated. The world number 32 stunned Belinda Bencic in the second round in the desert, coming back from a set down to beat her doubles partner before a third round exit to Rebecca Peterson, but she has drawn perhaps the shortest straw in the first round here. Back Muchova to win outright, although two sets should probably do it.
