THE PREDICTION

World number three Jessica Pegula received a walkover to the semi-finals of the Dubai Masters after Karoline Muchova was forced to withdraw from their enticing quarter-final. The 28-year-old is one of only two players to have beaten Iga Swiatek this season as she led the USA to the inaugural United Cup title last month but both players in this semi-final have recently beaten the world number one after Barbora Krejcikova beat the Pole to the Ostrava Open title late last season. World number 30 Krejcikova claimed the best win of her career since that day in Ostrava, and perhaps since her breakthrough season in 2021, by coming back from a set down to stun red-hot Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka. The Czech had great results already this week over Petra Kvitova and Daria Kasatkina but her confidence should be sky-rocketing after becoming the first player to beat the Belarussian in 2023. Pegula beat Krejcikova in straight sets in the round of 16 of the Australia Open last month in their only previous encounter but this could come a lot closer indeed. Take the match to see three sets or back Pegula, rested and laser-focused, to edge this outright.
