World number four Jessica Pegula beat Viktoria Hruncakova in straight sets on Tuesday top open her account in Seoul and she should be considered the fierce title favourite here. The 29-year-old won the Canada Masters in August to improve what had begun to look like an ailing season and she will be desperate to claim her fourth WTA title here at the Korea Open with half-Korean heritage from her mother. 19-year-old Ashlyn Krueger set a career-high WTA world ranking of 73rd after winning her maiden WTA title at the Osaka Open last month and she claimed her first win since with a solid straight-sets opener over Nadia Podoroska on Tuesday. The younger American has been unfortunate to draw Ons Jabeur and now Pegula so early on in her tournaments since Osaka but next season looks set to be a strong one.
