The 21-year-old began her incredible 37-match winning streak in Doha last season and that should strike fear in the rest of the WTA tour at the Dubai Masters, with this her first match thanks to a bye as the top seed. World number 37 Leylah Fernandez beat Julia Grabher in straight sets on Sunday but this will be several echelons higher in difficulty. The Canadian will be desperate to impress on the big stage and she is at her best when playing the underdog but Swiatek is simply too good to back against at this moment in time.
