THE PREDICTION

This promises to be another thrilling contest between world number one Iga Swiatek and former number seven Danielle Collins, who took Swiatek to three sets before a tight defeat at the Australian Open in January. 30-year-old Collins beat the Pole in straight sets to reach her maiden Grand Slam final, also in Melbourne, two years ago but consistent struggles with her fitness since has seen her form tumble away significantly in recent years, leading to her announcing that she will retire at the close of this season. The American has thoroughly impressed since doing so, with a recent run to the quarter-finals suggesting she could be a big factor on the Sunshine Double, but she trails Swiatek 5-1 in their head-to-head to suggest she has been hugely unfortunate here. A straight-sets victory over Erika Andreeva is a solid start in the desert but back 2022 champion Swiatek, who has a point to prove after her shock defeat to Anna Kalinskaya in Dubai last month, to win outright here.

TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN
