World number one Iga Swiatek looked in much better shape in her second round victory over Camila Osorio than her first round clash with Jule Niemeier, both tough matches falling in straight sets. The 21-year-old claimed her second and third Grand Slam titles last season at Roland-Garros, where she claimed her first in 2020, and the US Open amongst a remarkable eight titles won last season. A 37-match winning streak saw the Pole claim six of those titles in a row at the Qatar Masters, Indian Wells, Miami Open, Stuttgart Open, Rome Masters and Roland-Garros. Wins in New York and San Diego were her first titles taken after June to quickly swat away that particular note of intrigue.
THE PREDICTION
25-year-old Cristina Bucsa saved match point against former world number four Bianca Andreescu and then masterfully grabbed the third set by the reins to claim perhaps the biggest win of her career. The Spaniard will break the top 90 on tour for the first time as a result but it would be the shock of the tournament to see her produce another upset here, particularly with the element of surprise now spent. Swiatek looks to be playing herself into form with each passing round and she can be backed to win in straight sets here.
