World number 17 Hubert Hurkacz has won back-to-back matches in straight sets for only the third time this season, and the third time since June, as he slowly but surely looks like improving on tour. The 26-year-old has still enjoyed a few deep runs this season, including a sixth ATP title claimed at the Marseille Open in February, but he has been severely lacking the confidence required ton shut out matches he should be coasting through until recently. That being said, World number 60 Zhizhen Zhang will receive a hero’s welcome on Tuesday as the first Chinese player to reach the round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters after an impressive straight-set victory over Brandon Nakashima. Zhang, also 26, won Gold at the Asian Games before Shanghai to bring some serious momentum into the draw and he is one win away from setting a career-high ATP world ranking of around 47th. Hurkacz beat Zhang in straight sets here four years ago in their only previous encounter but expect this one to come much closer. Back Hurkacz to earn at least a set and consider adding at least a tiebreak, as happened here four years ago.
