The 25-year-old should break back into the top 10 on tour this season but 2022 was an odd year, with a straight-sets victory over Daniil Medvedev to win the Halle Open proof of what he is capable as much as defeats like the one to Ilya Ivashka at the US Open are a concern. This should be a straightforward opener against world number 58 Pedro Martinez, who claimed his maiden ATP title last season at the Chile Open on his favoured clay, but it will be interesting to see just how convincingly Hurkacz wins here. The Pole can be a world-beater on his day but he is currently too erratic to make the jump into top five territory. Back Hurkacz to win in straight sets here all the same.
