THE PREDICTION
23-year-old Fran Jones made the semi-finals here last season, her best showing on tour so far, before defeat to eventual champion Tatjana Maria. Injury at the French Open saw the Brit miss out on some promising form on clay but she looked to be finding her feet again on the surface in Tunisia in February and she conceded just three games in her opener here against home hopeful Yuliana Monroy.
World number 89 Laura Siegemund enjoyed an excellent start to 2024 as an integral part of Germany’s run to the United Cup title and she backed that up with a big upset over Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Australian Open. The 35-year-old was quieter over the past few months before a decent campaign in Miami late in March and she beat Iryna Shymanovich in straight sets on Tuesday to look ready to compete in Bogota. Fran Jones has suffered an inordinate amount of injuries in her short career, meaning we have really yet to see the level she can produce at her best. Back Siegemund to come through this first encounter but leave this one out of an accumulator.
