THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime can set a new career-high ATP world ranking of eighth this Monday if he can match Cam Norrie and Taylor Fritz, with a comeback victory over Jannik Sinner on Thursday one of his most impressive results this season. The Canadian looked in excellent shape in Montreal before a poor defeat to Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals but he should be the better for it this time around as he takes on a resurgent Borna Coric. Former world number 12 Coric missed a whole year from the ATP tour after surgery and five months since his return at Indian Wells the Croat finally looks to be clicking into a gear that can get him back inside the top 20 next season. Coric has won three matches on the spin for the first time since March last season after a seriously impressive straight-set win over Roberto Bautista Agut on Thursday – although his most noteworthy victory came over Rafael Nadal in the second round.

Auger-Aliassime will have to start fast and intensely to break down the surge of confidence Coric will bring to the court late on Friday night and with the pair sharing a 1-1 head-to-head record this looks a potential thriller. Backing Coric to win at least a set could be the shrewd move here but Auger-Aliassime should have enough to eventually come through.
